Achieving Best Evidence


This course offers both a historical and legislative background to the treatment of vulnerable witnesses.  It can be tailored to include the practical requirements of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 Special Measures and the role of Registered Intermediaries.  Participants will also focus on communicating with people with learning disabilities and mental health problems.

Understanding  historical attitudes and relevance to current practice

 

 Awareness of special measures and vulnerable victims and witnesses

 

Covering the definitions of learning disability and people with mental health needs and how these impact on interviewing

 

Identify a vulnerable witness


Training in the use of language and communications systems
