Police crime statistics show that the number of disability hate crimes recorded increased by more than 20 per cent in 2010, to 1569, although that is probably a tiny fraction of the real number that occurred. A recent report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found that &lsquo;many disabled people regard harassment as inevitable&rsquo;. </span></span></p>
