Equal Access to Justice

Daniel Hardy and Claire Hodson work for VOICE UK as Equal Access to Justice Project Workers. With the assistance of their support worker they can provide training for people who work in the criminal justice system, such as the police, solicitors and lawyers.

Daniel and Claire also visit advocacy and self advocacy groups, telling people with learning disabilities more about the criminal justice system and how to keep safe from crime and abuse.

Daniel and Claire's Roadshow training includes the discussion of the following of topics:

  • Bullying
  • Special Measures
  • Staying safe
  • Abuse

This training also includes activities such as drama pieces and quizzes and the showing of our video "Assert Yourself".

Information packs are given at the beginning of each training session, along with feedback forms.

Benefits and Outcomes

  • To make people with learning disabilities more aware of their rights and how to stand up and speak out for themselves.
  • To encourage an understanding of the rights of people with learning disabilities to professionals/staff working with these groups.
